There was a time before our scene was set
My eyes fixed on the stars the day our hands met
Love born in our first touch even though it’s so cliché
But that’s the way things tend to be so I guess it’s all okay

In a ragged tent underneath the northern lights
Cuddled close to hold in heat illuminated by the sky so bright
A wide array of vivid hues an illusion or a mystery
And at that moment, but seemed just fine to me

I went across the ocean you stayed back at home
You sat patiently by a tired and ring-less phone
Surviving bullet wounds and battlefields and wars bitter strife
Came home and I came to find the separation took your life

The sun shines brightly, juxtaposing the tears I’ve cried
The black of my suit coat reflects the emptiness inside
As I conjure the courage to say my last goodbye
Though we may pass away our love will never die
